About BLTC Press
BLTC Press was founded on the belief that the day of the ebook has come at last with the advent of ebook readers such as the SONY PRS 500 , PRS 505, and Amazon Kindle (Many BLTC Press titles are offered directly on amazon.com).  Although there is a wide array of public domain classical literature already available on the web in electronic form from such sites as Project Gutenberg, Google Books, The Internet Archive, Sacred Texts, and so on, they are not "published" in well-formatted and presented editions that can easily be downloaded and read on the new generation of readers.  And sadly, some "editions" presented as bona fide ebooks are simply a cut and paste of the "plain vanilla" text resulting in a long scroll of unformatted text.

In order that the reading public can fully appreciate the quality of our BLTC Press editions, we are pleased to share with the ebook community a new free BLTC Press edition each week.

The publishers at BLTC Press have a long history in both book publishing and the computer software industry, and have been party first hand to many earlier efforts to move print into electronic format, as well as the rise of the open source movement for software.  However, until now, it has not been possible to enjoy reading an electronic text in any way approximating that of a print book.

For persons who travel, have limited shelf space, or are simply voracious consumers of the printed word, the advent of the electronic book presents an incredible value and a potential ocean of riches.

BLTC Press intends to bring as many select electronic books to market as possible at a low and fair price.  While the proprietary model employed by the Sony CONNECT site is appropriate for the market of current publications from major book publishers, in order for the device itself to thrive and, hopefully, achieve lower prices and greater volumes, a complete publishing infrastructure needs to develop around it.  BLTC Press is providing its product unencumbered by DRM (Digital Rights Management), confident in the belief that consumers will be willing to pay a nominal fee for the convenience of well produced and formatted productions of public domain material.  (BLTC Press editions are subject to copyright and may not be re-sold or re-distributed.  We ask that you respect the care and labor invested in crafting these editions in the same way you would respect an author's rights.)

Although the Sony Reader and Amazon Kindle market may initially be small, it represents the first consumer-scale offering and deserves the support of those seeking to promote the wide availability of electronic texts.  Whether Sony "gets it" or not remains to be seen; future developments and trends in the e-ink and e-reader arena will, of course, be monitored with close interest at the BLTC Press.

Why BLTC?

BLTC Press (aka "blitzy" press) is formed from an anagram of the three classics of children's literature: (the) Little Engine That Could, (the) Blue Ribbon Puppies by Crockett Johnson, and Stone Soup.  These three books have represented to the founder the ideals of persistence, appreciation, and the building of social and economic ecosystems (our of nothing!).
