Edward Bulwer-Lytton,
Sir Edward Bulwer-Lytton was one of the more popular and prolific writers of the 18th century. He was a popularizer of both historical and romantic themes; of perhaps most enduring interest are his novels with an occult or mystical theme. He coined the phrase "The pen is mightier than the sword." He was a many-sided individual who could sometime be found wandering the ruins of Pompeii, reciting verse and followed by a young maiden, strewing flowers and playing a lyre. He also served with distinction in the British Parliament.
