Zanoni by Edward Bulwer Lytton

Title Information
Zanoni is a complex multi-layered story of love, spiritual aspiration, and the tension between idealism and the desire for physical immortality as well as romantic and sexual passion and the austerity of a spirituality untouched by human desire.  Bulwer himself described the work as "a truth for those who can comprehend it, and an extravagance for those that can't."  Indeed, woven into the story as a primary sub-plot is the story of Glyndon, a young artist in search of higher knowledge, who encounters along the way the being known as "The Dweller on the Threshold" in a terrifying vision.  Divided into seven books, the final section is set against the background of the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution, which proves to be the pivotal axis around which the final and ultimate decisions of the characters unfold.

A classic work of love, adventure, and inspiration.

Format: Sony Reader
